As cells grow the surface area/volume ratio goes down. This inhibits their ability to uptake nutrients.

Cells do different things for different areas of our system, that is why one big cell isn't gonna work. If you had just one big cell for example, you can't help others to cure cancer and other diseases that can be helped with stem cell surgeries or a bone marrow transplant and such. Because if you would get something like cancer, which attacks your cells, if you had one cell, then you'd die cause there would be no way to replace it with a healthy cell which is why we have many cells. If we had one cell then nobody could help you get cured either. I hope this answers your question. Take care!

Cells not only become ineffective at attaining nutrients, but their internal regulatory systems become more difficult to manage because of the greater distances between the cell components within the cell, leading to cell death. Evolution has enhanced cells to maintain their size to reduce the likelihood that these systems will fail in their particular environment.

if a cell just grows and grows and grows it wont be abl;e to perform all the specialised functions all the different cells do in our body. therefore the cell keeps on dividing so that the new cells can organize into tissues and thus organize into organs and organ systems to perform specialised functions.

some do, nobody says that all cells divide again and again. some grow and grow untill they are large enough, then dont change size until they die

its grows so that it can divide . it has to obtain enough nutrients for two before it can divide

if a cell gets too big, tranporting materials such as proteins becomes too difficult and wastes too much energy.
