I just can't figure out why anybody would listen to these poser punk bands when they could be listening to some real punk like The Ramones The Buzzcocks or The Clash nowadays if you ask a teenager what bands he thinks are punk he will mention all the poser punk bands like Greenday or Fallout Boy apparently I'm one of only a couple of teenagers who knows what real punk rock is like The Ramones, The Clash, The Damned, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc

Because the Ramones ripped off Chuck Berry, and other early rock and roll stars, who ripped of blues musicians. It's not ripping people off, it's taking influences and reinterpret into something of their own.

On another note, I wouldn't put Green Day in the same category as Fallout Boy...When Green Day started, punk rock was NOT popular. They were a bunch of outcasts who found this music that they loved. They were part of a real scene (Gilman St-home to Operation Ivy) and weren't founded in order to sell records. They gambled with a major label deal, not expecting to be the phenomenon they are now. They never changed their style to sell records, it was their style that sold records, so I wouldn't call them a sellout (unlike their contemporaries The Offspring). Anyways, how can you can you accuse them of "ripping off" The Ramones and The Buzzcocks, when every non-poser band rips them off as well. I am sick of this argument, and I suggest you worry about more important stuff.

Because many of there fans are too young to remember those original seventies punk bands. Bands like The Ramones and The Buzzcocks have never sold out. Today many producers want to duplicate the "punk" sound because it sells, but once again the music industry has watered down something that at one time had an edge.

Brother, hate to tell you this, but green day has been doing it for a long long time. I have several old fliers from the california scene with green day double and tripple billing with the likes of social distortion, bad religion, gang green and many more. they are NOT posers. Just a hard working punk band who got a lucky break and sold a lot of albums. success does not make one a poser. if you took the time and quit trying to label everything, and give it a good listen, you might find that their is a lot of great music that you've been missing out on.

These are musical artists with similar taste and outlook on life as the Ramones, Buzzcocks, etc.. They are influenced by the earlier bands; I think it's harsh to call them posers. They're just trying to make music.

ripping off others is part of the human tradition. where do you think we got the idea for showers from? we totally ripped of the rain. basically bands only remain successful while people are interested so who knows how long it will last. but as for "getting away with it" the great thing about music is that people can do whatever they want. the lack of regulation is great and the last thing we would need is the Music Police.

Because that's what punk bands do. Play the same crap over and over again. It's hard to NOT rip off those bands when you're making a "song" with 4 chords.

It's because kids are lazy and don't want to look around, even when the internet makes it very easy to look at other bands.

Music is cyclical. It takes new bands to revitalize the old styles.
