Do a simple professional message. Funny messages get annoying fast or might be misinterpreted:
Thank you for calling the xyz company. Unfortunately we are unable to answer the phone at this time as we are assisting other clients. Please leave your name number and a brief message and we will return you call as soon as we can.
Thank you for calling the xyz company.
When outside of business hours:

You are important to us so please leave your name number and a brief message and we will return you call as soon as we can or please call us back during our business hours

Yea make it one of those it goes like this ..
"Hi youve reached the answering machine of (your business)! No one is available to take your call right now, but I'm open for suggestions."
or
"Hi youve reached the answering machine of (your business)! You're message number in 1,657. Please hold, your message is important to me."
Everyone loves calling a serious place and getting a humorous answering machine.

What do you want the callers to do?
Why would they be calling?
What's the business?
Do they have any options?
