I agree it seems that way,but if you are watching another kettle beside it, it doesn't really seem to take forever for either one-- they both will boil !!

same reason people ask the question about watching a kettle till it boils. Some folks just have a hard time with original thought.

It'll seem like longer as all you are doing is standing there watching it. If however you were talking to you're neighbour, changing a kids nappy and trying to make the tea then the kettle will boil rather fast.
It's a way of saying "Have patience".

Yeah, it's a bummer. Sat there for ages watching this kettle in the shop window. Nothing happened. Must have been the Kryptonite.
