well I believe the egg because some say that birds originated from dinosaurs so I think the egg because it had to hatch.

The Chicken

The egg. How could the chicken physically come first? Where would it have come from? My theory is that the egg was born from something other than the chicken but just that something happened to make it turn into a chicken (if that makes sense?), the egg that is.

Of course the egg comes first. It's pretty simple. If the egg isn't fertilized, well, all you have is an egg...no chicken. That proves it.

If the chicken were to come before the egg, we'd eat scrambled or hard boiled chicken for breakfast. Yuck. I'm definitely glad the egg comes 1st.

The chicken had to lay an egg so really, the chicken came first.

impossible for anyone to give a correct answer because no one knows....

however i believe that by the theory of evolution the egg would have come first

because lizards were on the earth before birds.

it is often believed that lizards evolved from birds (archaeopteryx fossil) and since lizards lay eggs it is clear to me that the egg MUST have come before the chicken

wat would have happened is the lizard would have had a genetic mutation giving it say feathers
then by natural selection if the mutated lizard survived the chances are that its offspring would also have the mutation this would happen over millions of years then eventually after hundreds of mutations a CHICKEN would have hatched out of the EGG

i hope this answers your question

look at the archaeopteryx fossil (the top picture)at: http://www.dreamworlds.org/fossils.htm

P.S LAURA
natural selection means that the chicken would have had to hatch from an egg of another creature just think about it...
wat u r saying suggest thet the chicken just appeared on the earth

the egg. because evolution is slow and gradual. the chicken was not the first life form to exist. whatever life form that led to the existence of the chicken was not a chicken, therefore the first chicken came from the first chicken egg. of course at that time there were probably no humans to give such scientific labels.

Depends.
If the pre-chicken evolved to be what we now know as the chicken today, as it was about to lay an egg, then it's the chicken.

This is a great question, which needs a lot of thought but I can tell you that it was the egg but it was not laid by a chicken as we know it today. Through the process of evolution the animal that laid the egg went through hundreds of years of evolution before it became a chicken as we know it today.
The bird that first started this was a large flightless bird and its name I can not remember at this time but it was over three feet tall.
