I reeeeeally want an ipod =] My mum had one of the first ones but as soon as she put itunes on her computer, all the computers in the house couldn't get on the internet, she phoned BT and the first question they asked was if we'd installed any ipod software recently, so we found that was the problem - they gave us a patch but it didn't work -_- then my mum had to completely restore her computer back to the beginning because it messed up all her media files or something O_o She tried again and the same thing happened. (So any solutions have to be pretty definate because my mum'll go mad if her computer gets wrecked again hehe)
I searched around for answers to this or if anyone had had similar problems but I never found anything. So I'm hoping one of you guys can help!! :D My mum says if I find a solution then I can get an ipod :P
Oh and if it's any use, we use a rubbishy belkin wireless thing that's very...fussy and disconnects all the time -_-

Sounds like you're using a PC. The first version of iTunes for Windows had a few bugs and some people did experience problems similar to yours.

The first thing I'd encourage you to do is make sure that your computer fulfills the minimum system requirements for iTunes from this list: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

If your computer meets the requirements, download the latest version of iTunes and try it out without an iPod to make sure everything works fine.

Also, don't forget or underestimate the need for good virus protection for your computer. Sometimes viruses will make their way onto your Windows computer and can create havoc.

Finally, take a careful look at your Belkin wireless router. If you have cordless telephones that operate at 2.4GHz, they can interfere with the wireless connection between your computer and the Belkin device. You may want to try a new cordless phone (at 5.8GHz or 2.4Ghz with some sort of frequency skipping technology) or a different wireless router.

Good luck, and happy iPodding :-)

Get a different router and an IPOD.

Setup a user on your computer (NOT YOUR MOM'S) that does not have access to the internet (net work card disabled) and install I-tunes for that user only, (windows XP).

That way Itunes cannot kill any internet connections.

If you do want to connect itunes to the internet, call BT to see if the unlisted feature still exists, or if it has been fixed in a later upgrade. To test, disconnect all computers but yours, run itunes and see what happens. Disconnecting yours, reinstalling everything while everyone else can connect again shouldn't incur mom's wrath.
Good Luck

What you have to do is, even if its a little more expencive, is to get wireless internet. You're problem is that whenever you put itunes, its too much charge for the phone line, which makes it deliver the itunes and the internet to only 1 computer.
believe me.
If you keep having problems, contact me.
