I wish the UN was a joke, on the 4th of July the UN will begin discussion on how to disarm the public (small arms control) The UN already owns vast tracts of the United States via World Heritage cites. UN peace Keepers will be called in domestically in the US while our troops are busy occupying resource rich nations around the world in the event that the governments orchestrates another major terror attack upon US soil.

Thats why I am a firm believe of you can have my gun, after you pry it from my cold dead hands.

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! Pick me! No, Yes and Yes.

I don't think it's a joke, because I realize the (perceived) need for a world-wide forum where nations can get together on equal footing to discuss matters of common interest.

However, I do believe that the UN as it is now organized is both a waste of time and money because of the inherent problems that compound exponentially when attempting to effectively govern areas larger than 1500 square miles (say, the size of Long Island). I work alongside municipalities of one square mile, and work for a government responsible for 600 square miles; and I can see the differences in values, occupations, poverty and quality of life that make governing difficult. Now, expand that to 82,000 square miles (area of my state) and you have even more well defined areas of poverty and wealth; manufacture, agriculture, and information jobs; conservatives and liberals (though there is a strong libertarian leaning statewide). Factions and alliances form between agriculturial and industrial areas, vicious infighting between even memebers of a single party is causing division and possible split. If these differences are pronouncing themselves even over this small an area, what happens when you try to come up with a working governmental model for 57.3 million square miles?
The UN can be useful, just not as it is trying to become. Instead of an ineffectual governing body, it could be a clearing house for working with other nations to deliver effective aid quickly around the globe. Instead, we have a world-wide government by desk.

The UN is a big joke that cares about very little, last time they were ever effective was during the Korean War only because the Soviets abstained from voting on the Korean War issue.

The UN isn't a joke... per say. It's a joke to provide 'world peace' because in all the events that the UN has been apart of... they haven't helped. They usually make it worse. Look through their history and you'll notice that. So, yes, they are a joke in that way, but they aren't a joke because when the UN gets more power... we're all in trouble.

Sadly the UN is no joke. Its a serious mess that needs gutted out from its roots. They began with a good concept, but it has evolved into a travesty. I would really like to see our funds halted until they get it together. We are the major supporters of a den of criminals and thieves who are certainly not working to our benefit.

I think you meant to ask ask how many people in the UN think the USA is a joke? Waste (actual spelling) of human life and money.

However... that said they were foolish not to send troops to the White House to arrest that international war criminal the moment he committed his crime.

Definitely NOT a joke. An idea that is wonderful but needs work. The war is so much more a waste of money than this institution that promotes peace and co-operation

To an extent, except that I don't know a whole lot about the UN other than what I see in movies & the news. Idealistically, it's a great concept. However, with any sort of agency of any kind, it's going to be wrought with politics & bureacracy.
