It really depends on the type of driving and your style of driving. every 5,000 miles generally for normal on road driving without towing; every 3,000 if towing or doing some offroading. Simple oil chaging, lubricating the chassis each time, and check your tire pressure. Some simple additions that won't cost much and are simple to do is about every 10,000 miles change the PCV valve ($5-6) about every 15,000 miles, change the air filter ($10-15). If you are really concerned about effiency, check into having the air in your tires changed to nitrogen. This will add to the life of the tires and give you about an avarage 3-4% better fuel milage.

Other than oil @ 3000 miles I would have the Transmission serviced @ 25,000 if it is an Automatic.Check tires every other fill-up-have all fluid levels checked.5000 on the oil if it's all open road driving.IF it's a LARGE TRUCK like [semi] that is a horse of a different feather.

I agree with everyone in doing the services according to the book that the maufacturer recommends with the oil every 3k miles, the tires rotated every 6k miles.
In keeping the maintainance as per the book, I've personally kept my personal rides past 200k miles with the engine still looking pretty new with no gunk .
the company rather a 5 k mile service schedule and we still keep vehicles easily past 100k miles (before we sell for new ones)

Well, oil is every 3 months or 3000 miles for most vehicles. I buy new tires about every other to every 3 years, or whenever the tread has worn.
Air filter needs changed regularly, and fluids need checked on a regular basis also.
Best bet is to date a mechanic. :)

Obtain the owner's manual for your car. It will contain two maintenance schedules; one for hard driving, and one for light driving. With one exception, follow the maintenance schedule for hard driving.
The one exception is oil and filter changes. Do 'em every 3,000 miles. Oil is cheap, and a well-lubricated engine is a happy engine.
