Yes, you can drown in sleep. However, you will have to be in very deep sleep. There's a sleeping disorder called sleep apnea, in which the person wakes up frequently because they struggle to breathe. If you just lay down in a bath tub and fall sleep, you will most likely wake up if you start having difficulty in breathing. But if you are in very deep sleep or unconscious (alcohol induced, sedative drugs, etc.), then you might not wake up because the nervous system is under involuntary control since you're unconscious or close to it.

In an unconscious state the body's natural response is to stop breathing when water enters through the mouth or nose. Yes, you risk drowning should you fall asleep in the bathtub and not wake up before your oxygen supply depletes before you regain consciousness and lift your head above water to breath fresh air.

If you don't have any kind of sleeping disorder or drunk or some kind of system dysfunction. you wont drown while asleep, because once your body starts lacking oxygen, impulse would be sent to your brain.. thereby waking you waking you up to consciousness

Yes, it happened to an old family friend of mine. Returning home drunk (as usual) he decided to lie down in a ditch and go to sleep. He slept face down and drowned in barely a trickle of water, seems he inhaled it somehow. It was written on his death certificate that cause of death was by drowning..

yes it is possible to fall asleep in the bathtub and drown. because once you are truly asleep, its hard to wake up and its like dying in your sleep because you would not notice.

YES if you are comotose or are on drugs, alcohol and are nearly frozen! It happens a lot with people drugged. In fact people can even drown on their own vomit when drunk-drugged.
