Yea, the first movies are usually a lot better than their sequels if there are only two movies. An exception was the second princess diaries which was way better than the first. Also spiderman and toy story 2.
However if the movies have more than one sequel some of the time the sequels are just as good if not better. (ex. star wars,
x-men, harry potter...)

Hmmmm, I must agree that sequals are mostly not as good as the first (original) movie, but as in any rule there are exeptions:
1. The Godfather
Come on, Part II is at least as good as the first one...
2. Die Hard
Man, do I like those movies... First part was great, third part was reallllllly great, I simply enjoy watching B.Willis & Samuel L. Jackson...
3. Batman
It was allright as long as Tim Burton directed it, even the third one is good, and Batman:Begins (yes, I know it's a prequel) has so much power and energy, way to go Christopher...
4. Alien
All four are awsome (I do not count AVP as a sequel), the fourth being the worst of them, but the previous three were just fine...
I'm sure that someone will come up with more ideas, but I think I gave a pretty good example ;)

The first one is ALWAYS better than the sequal. I can't think of any movies that part 2 or 3 was better.

I think Terminator 2 was ten times better than the first one. I also think Star Trek 2 was much better than the first movie. Number 2 has a way better story line and was much more intense. The same with Star Wars 2 Attack of the Clones. It had better action and story line compared to Phantom Menace. I think Superman 2 kick the crap out of Superman 1

There are some exceptions to the rule. For example, X men was great, X-Men 2 was better, and X-Men the last stand was awesome! Also, Spider man had a good sequel. Even Underworld Evolution had a kick to it. There are multiple sequels that were better then the first movie.

I believe that the original Star Wars trilogy is a good example.
Terminator 3 was not as good as T2 but T2 was better than the Terminator. Indiana Jones and the temple of doom was not as good as Raiders of the lost ark but the last crusade was awesome.Of course, it depends on the person watching the movie and the genre and actors they enjoy the most.

Terminator 2, Aliens, Spider-Man 2, X-Men 2.
I also noticed "Batman Begins" and "The Two Towers." Folks, neither of those two movies are sequels. "Batman Begins" is the first of a new series of Batman movies, and "The Two Towers" was the second part of one story...so it isn't a sequel.

I guess it's not technically a sequel, becuase it was all part of a larger story, but I thought that each successive installment of Lord of the Rings was better than the previous.
