since i started her on cows milk shes been gaining alot of weight would it be better to put her on soy milk so she doesnt gain so much wieght

Soy milk isn't milk at all, it's a manufactured vegeteble-based liquid high in fats, proteins and vitamins. Cow's milk is cow's milk. You don't say how old your daughter is but you've posted this under Newborn, and you should give neither to a child under one year old. The only milk they should have should be the one specially designed for their tiny bodies, which is from you. There is no better source for them of all the food they need, all the immunological enzymes, less chance of cholic AND they will be less fussy eaters as they grow older if they start with at least four months of breast milk. It's free, convenient, you'll regain your shape more quickly, probably lose some weight, and bond with your child. Why would anyone do anything else?

Cow's milk is too rich for babies and is designed for cows. There are doubts about whether soy milk is suitable for babies (or anyone at all), not least because it is rarely organic (so can carry trace pesticides and suchlike) and because it is mostly genetically modified (about which the risks are unknown).

If you will not give your child breast milk, you should choose a good quality formula milk, take great care preparing it (everything has to be sterilized and you need good quality bottles), and keep that up until your child is one year old. Full fat cow's milk may be given afterwards, but you should serve it at the same temperature as you served her formula milk. You may give her sheep's milk or goat's milk if she finds cow's milk too rich, as these are lower in lactose and will cause less nausea (should she suffer from it). Good luck. But breast is best.

Most of these are all very ignorant, unresearched and biased answers. Don't ask around, do the research and talk to your pediatrician. There are many beliefs and many studies in favor of and in opposition to both soy milk and cow's milk. In my opinion, based on experience, research and what I have been told by medical professionals, unless your child has a soy allergy, Soy milk is the way to go. That goes for adults, as well. We are not cows, so it doesn't make physiological sense to consume cow's milk. There are more and more studies and developments every day that focus on the negative and unnatural effects of drinking cow's milk. Also, keep in mind that there are vegetarians and vegans who drink soy milk and raise their children on soy milk for ethical and health reasons. And, as far as the comment regarding Soy milk making you fat, that's ridiculous...have you ever seen a vegan? They're waifs! Actually, I've been a vegetarian for 17 years and the only reason I can't lose weight is because I can't eliminate dairy from my diet!

Actually soy milk tends to make people fat...my sisters baby drank alot of soy milk and he was really fat when he was little because of it.And regular milk is just as bad because it is fatting too and because it is homogenized which scars a persons arteries.The best milk to give your daughter would be organic milk and actually anyone can drink it and it's 100 times tastier and 100 times better than that other milk.Plus organic milk has no hormones that are shot up to cows to produce more milk.It's a little more expensive but way worth it.

You don't need to give your daughter either one. In fact, you *shouldn't* use either one until she is over a year old. Until her first birthday, she needs to be nursing (or getting formula) for most of her diet. Neither cow's milk nor soy milk will replace that.

Once your daughter is a year old, she *still* doesn't need to have any milk if you choose not to give it. She can get calcium from dairy products other than milk (yogurt or cheese, for instance). And soy milk is not a nutritional substitute for cows milk, although it is a substitute in terms of its use in foods (pouring on cereal, for instance).

If you have any question about your daughter's diet, please consult an expert. This would *not* be her pediatrician (nutrition is *optional* in medical school--if it is offered at all!), but a nutritionist.

Soy milk is the safest for babies. In hospitals nurseries, when a mother is not able to breastfeed their baby, that's the choice. Cow's milk has way too much fat for babies, and can sensitize the baby to milk, causing later allergies.

i would say they are both just as healthy as long as you give her her daily vitamins. maybe you should try 2% milk or skim milk. but most doctors suggest that you should wait to feed your baby skim milk until she is 2. don't switch right away to soy milk if you choose soy milk b/c the taste is very different. mix it with her regular milk for at least until you have used the whole gallon. and than just straight up soy milk from their.

Soy milk contain alot of extra nutrients that Cows milk does not. Honestly, I would ask her doctor. Doctors know alot about nutrition, espcially Nutritionists.

Whole milk til the age of 2 or 3, unless your daughter has a dairy sensitivity, then talk to your dr. Milk is the most balanced single food. WHOLE milk is important because the high fat content is important for neurological development (brain) the 1st few years of life. *(After that, no one needs to drink whole milk!) You literally can "retard" a child's neurological, i.e. intellectual, development without sufficient fat the first couple of years.

cow milk has natural antibodies n nutrients that a calf would get from their mother to survive, if she is gaining a lot of weight dont feed her as much

i work in the pediatic clinic...im a CMA
you should consult your doctor on this
SOY is for babies that are not tolerant to cows milk
not just so your child wont gain so much weight
its a good sign when babies gain weight

its when they dont gain weight it when we are concerned
dont worry about your child being overweight
we usually dont worry about that until 2 years of age
