Make sure you are visible, and make really good product, It takes awhile, sometimes, but word of mouth, and repeat business are your best Friends at first. hand out cards when you are in other places, the grocery store, etc. visit other businesses in you immediate area. and maybe offer a small discount or something to them or a punch card or something to get people back.

Locally, we have a drive-thru coffee shop...It's actually very conveniently located to the freeway, but is in a shopping center that not a lot of people go into.
They have put up little signs - each about a foot tall, stuck into the ground with metal stakes. There are probably 6 little signs in a 75-foot stretch of landscaping that fronts the road to the freeway, pointing into the shopping center. I think this has helped them quite a bit...You might try something similar.

Offer something free with it, like a cookie or donut.
People love free stuff.
Is there a local radio station?
Stop in around the time of their morning show and drop off some coffee. Tell them your a new business and just wanted to let them know you're there. Be sure to leave a card or something with your business name and address on it. If its good, they'll talk about you. On air people are more than happy to get free food for a little "uptalk" for a local place.

Drive by Home Depot and pick up one of the guys standing there to stand out on the street corner dancing and holding a sign pointing to your drive-through place.
Also use some system (such as a punch card) that rewards repeat customers....11th coffee free, etc.

Take over some free (yes, I said free) coffee to businesses in the area to try. Not only do people love great coffee, they love convenient places to get it. Good luck!

Put a sandwich board advertising your shop by the road. Have an opening event, send out flyer's, and higher attractive people to work for you.

Offer a great deal at first to get people aware of you. And do something nice for free good publicity, like give away a kidney or save a kid from a fire. Or help charity I guess, if you can't donate or save.

maybe have music playing, decorations outside like bright flowers, a very clean place, samples, and for the opening maybe you should give out free first cups of coffee to people. good luck!

Best suggestion is to drop off flyers at business that have sales people. They are always in a rush, looking for a kick in a hurry.
And have a big moving sign near your store.
