I've noticed that when a loved one (ie husband) tells a woman she is beautiful (or whatever) she doesn't believe him. But when a complete stranger does the same thing she completely believes this person

I am this way. Movies show this as well.

Why are people like this?

I don't know why I think what my husband says isn't true, and maybe someone can clear this up for me

Thanks

Because we think they are doing it out of niceness and being sincere, a complete stranger is not going to come up and say hey you look fat in that dress or your hair is awful
So when someone who doesn't know you pays you a compliment you automatically be live them to be sincere why else would they be approaching a person the never met

I think we get too used to our loved ones giving us compliments. We begin to feel that they're obligated to say nice things so they may not really be objective. A stranger, however, is much more likely to be objective, so a compliment seems to mean much more.

We are raised in a world to have poor self esteem. Always told someone is better. So when we are appreciated and loved, it's like a shock to our systems. The more of us that take our spouses at their word when we are complimented, the more we will have successful marriages
