how long does it take a letter to travel from new jersey to chicago?

With my postman add 2 days to the normal which is 1-2 days.

Depends on the post office. Could be a day, could be a week, could be never. I can send a letter from Texas to California, and thats what happens. I can send a letter in the same city, and it might take over a week. That is why the price of stamps keeps going up.

If you drop it at an actual post office it will take the least time. I would give it 2-3 business days.

the average is about 2-3 days...you could speed it up by dropping it off at a major post office

Put the name of the postmaster of your post office instead of your name. that would expedite your letter ten fold.
