It has to do with the 'risky' behaviors of men. The mortality rate of young men due to these behaviors is very high. Later in life factors of health (eg. not going to the doc.) tend to be a leading cause of mortality. A secondary cause has to do with mental health issues especially if a his wife dies. Women tend to have more personal relationships than men. When comparing men and women the numbers show the generalized version of what is going on. The young men stats pull down the grouping some.

This is a cary over from the days when men were the primary breadwinners in a household and women rarely worked outside the home. Giving women a lower retirement age was kind of a gender bias thing and it did not cost the system much as there were so few women that retired and collected Social Security on their own.

There is more stress on the male frame. More muscle higher up on body, so more stress on the spine. Men tend to pick up the heavy box where as the woman would go and get the sack truck ( brains over braun ).
Traditionally TRADITIONALLY not always, the male has the role of bread winner causing high tension stress and greater number of heart attacks.
Men use more energy ( 2500 calories per day for men 2000 for women ) so probably use a similar amount of ' life '

men have more fun than women. women keep themselves looking and feeling young because generally for them they start living life in their mid thirties. besides men do all the work in bed, hey try satisfying a woman surely it does wear you down, because women are hardly ever satisfied by anything men do. men are kept on their toes day in and day out and as a result do not really get enough time to take good care of themselves.

I read an article on this recently, but I cant remember where..but it said that men tend to die younger than women because they tend to internalize their feelings more than women do, therefore they set themselves up for heart attacks, strokes etc...also, their reactions to stress are different from women, and they tend to not be able to de-stress as fast.

Its because men don't like to go to the doctor even when they are sick. they are too strong and manly. Women go to the doctor once a year at least. also, its a know fact that men are more crazy than women. you know they like to do those deadly sports and get into fights and or commit crimes and end up dead.

Women tend to be more health conscious than men. They are more concerned with their appearances, one of which being weight, so they tend to eat healthier and exercise more frequently.
