Because marijuana itself can have devastating effects on the body; it has been shown to cause lung cancer even quicker than the common cigarette, and that's not including the narcotic effects it has. Marijuana use also leads to the use of other drugs. Once you're hooked on one, why not start using others?

Marijuana makes you feel good only temporarily. If your life is good and you are a happy person, then smoking pot will probably not affect you negatively too much. But if your life already sucks and you are ticked off at the world, then smoking pot usually makes you more miserable whenever you are not smoking it. So, the solution then seems to be to smoke even more pot.
My lazy no-good loser brother is a heavy pot smoker. I think he is wasting his money. He is just as much of a jerk and a spaz after he has done pot than before--sometimes even more so. It definitely doesn't make him mellow out. He is always a jerk.
What happens to a lot of pot users is that they want it all the time and nothing else is important. Stuff like paying bills. keeping promises, going to work, and doing household and family chores becomes unimportant and all they want to do is smoke pot and hang out with other pot heads. I call it fantasy land -- nothing else matters as long as you don't think about, so just keep on with the wacky weed.
So, if your life sucked before, it will only be worse now. That is what happens to a lot of people. I am saving a big cardboard box for my loser brother because soon that is all he will have to live in and call his own. Over the years he has lost pretty much all of his assets, dozens of jobs, and his only friends are fellow pot-heads. Now, if that sounds attractive then go ahead. But I think it is totally messed up.

"...im living proof that nothing is wrong with pot." You're living proof of nothing. FOr every one of you, there are a hundred losers so stoned they can't even get up to get food for their munchies. Don't try to make a rule out of the exception.
As far as you being living proof - you'll be proof (though not living proof) when you are dead and haven't died from a lack of brain cells; lung, throat, or nose cancer; or from a car accident where you drove into a van full of children because you were too stoned to make the corner.
I'm not debating the legality of it, simply the fallacious nature of this argument.

most people preaching about the evils of pot have never smoked it.
I suppose the fact that in your country there is zero tolerance is, in and of itself a pretty persuasive argument for NOT smoking (I mean who wants to go to jail or get a criminal record??).
Of course, the criminalization of pot has been traced back to the Hearst Newspaper Empire's efforts to keep cheaper hemp from supplanting wood fibre pulp in the paper industry (ostensibly because Hearst owned a great deal of wood fibre holdings)
the movie "Grass" offers some further insight into this theory.
All that being said, we all have difernt degrees of addictive personalities, so what may be ok for you or me, might not for others - certainly there is the risk associated with psychoactive drugs might push an unbalanced person over the edge.
Certainly pot is not all harmless - but then again, neither are trans fats, booze, cigarettes, fast cars, US foreign policy, sex, rock'n'roll, fossil fuels, capitalism, etc. etc.

It can be deadly...and for some people, but not all, it leads to harder drugs. I have watched friends throw away their life for pot. I used to do it, I wont lie. But then I realized I didnt need drugs to make it through the day. I dont put down people who do it, but I expect them to have respect and not do it around me. I'm proof as well, but theres people 6 feet under or homeless that are proof of another impact it can have.
To each his own, right?

because like ciggarettes, there's lots of chemicals and stuff in the pot you buy that are unhealthy. most drug dealers don't sell strictly pot. they add what you'd call fillers to save them on the weed. the only way you can be sure it's safe is if you grow your own, and I don't suggest it. it's also what a lot of dealers do with coke/crack. marijuana can have bad effects on the human body. you have to consider, we don't all share the same body. it can react differently with someone else as opposed to you. plus, it's the fact that it's just illegal. lots of people have problems with things that are against the law.

You crack me up! How long does it take an alcoholic to die, 30, 40, or 50 years? You're "living proof" all right!
