FEAR. Fear for oneself typically overrides a step to action. It is sad, and blindingly true that others don't want to "feel" for others outside of their perfected circle of intimates. However, action starts with one person, that one person can effect a change. Ready? I am....

I dont normally do this but if I did it would be in fear of getting shot I reckon. I could still call the cops I guess, and thats probably the best. People are not too trustworthy and you never know who is packing and capable of killing you if you do step in. Usually I dont think about that until later, but this stuff dont happen too often around me. I have heard that it does happen quite often. See, most people are not afraid to pull some man off of a woman or a kid, but there really is so much shooting that its crazy. My brother pulled this dude off a woman once and the damn woman started beating on my brother and then her old man jumped in on my brother too. So he was getting his butt whipped for trying to help her. What a friggin mess. Anyway, did you witness someone watching while you were beat down? I hope not. I also have seen people get on the phone to the cops right away when they see some stranger messin' about with a car they know that is not the perpetrators auto. There again is a risk of a killing. Have you ever been in a ghetto or a hood? It aint too pleasant and the first thing you learn is to dont make eye contact and mind your own business. But that aint too cool eh? I dont want some yahoo messin about with my ride or family and I dont mess with nobodys anything.

Most people spend thier whole lives trying to convince themselves that they are good people, when in reality, they don't stop to help those in need and don't care about other people's suffering.

You see it on the highway all the time; people passing by broken down cars, or people slowing down at crash sites to "see if everyone is okay", despite the fact that first responders and police are already on the scene, and they'll be damned if they actually stop to help. That's an outright lie; they wanna see some bodies.

That said, I was talking to a friend over the phone, when he suddenly hung up. He called back fifteen minutes later and said that he just knocked out a guy who was downstairs beating his wife, called an ambulence (for both of them), and made sure she had somewhere safe to go.

So there are still good people out there. Have hope.

People ignore such things becaue of fear for there own life. There has been many who tried to help and the wife/husband turn on them.Abuse is a form of control if he/she dosen't know how to get out of it or do somthing about it that form of violence will continue. The police and social services can only do so much it takes the person who is in the situation to deal/handle it.I know because I am an X abusee..If a person see's somthing that is not right NEVER walk upon the situation find a phone and call the Police. If they come that's fine too but never let the person who is causing the harm see you..

My husband stopped a man from beating his wife just last week. (although I think he just looked like he was going to beat her). I report crimes when I see them. last month I yelled at a man who was hitting his child and he got real scared. My kids stop bully's in school and my friends call the police whenever there is someone who doesn't belong in our neighbourhood or suspicious activity. That's what the our tax dollar pay the police for. These bully's are cowards after all. Where do you live? Maybe it is the attitude of where you live...it would only take one person to change the attitude of an entire neighbourhood. Oh I see...you live in America...I don't live in America

Some people today have forgotten what it means to be an american. They live in fear for getting in trouble or they just don't care and want nothing to do with whatever situation is at hand. Those people see it as it's not involving their own life or family so they selfishly , greedily turn "a blind eye" .

There are some old standard behaviors that persist into modern times. People may disapprove, but not intervene between spouses or between parents and their children.
They may also be afraid that the anger of the man or the neighbor will be turned on them or fear that the thief will attack them.
Most probably worry about it later and wonder if they should have done something. Unfortunately that doesn't change things.

What your describing is actually more likely to be labeled as street crime, and the fact is that most oeople are oblivious to their surroundings and are not aware it`s going on at all. Many of the others are too slf-involed to give a damn.. As far as corruption goes, goto Question911.com and save the loose change documentaries 1 and 2, they are safe, I did it last night. After you`ve watched them both you will be aware of a type of corruption that is quite possibly of global proportion!

People are afraid to get involved, because they would have to make a stand on something, or stand up for their beliefs. Because the only reward for standing up is personal. Usualy if you try to help someone, you become a victim, yourself. It takes a very strong person, to stand up against wrongdoing, although people do do it. But society doesnt reward that behavior. It
ridicules it.

90% people don't care, they just care about only them...
The world & this life of "today" is like a never ending rat-race... no body really cares what's happening next or other side of the world... and most of times rest of 10% people are not available on the right time, right place... randomness is world...
