I am having my first baby, my only bro. was stuck in the hospital after birth because he was real sick so the nurses changed his dressings and stuff, she didn't learn how to. Can someone tell me how to deal with a new baby that is circumsized? are they in a lot of pain during the procedure, do they get any pain medication? And how do you change them.

Not getting it done isn't an option, i want it done unless it will harm him later on...it's not just so he will fit in, but i have heard of the skin latching on to other skin so the skin won't pull back

I had my son circumsized, I had it done for posible medical problems that he might have later in life. The doctors used a topical pain medicine, he only cried for a few minutes then afterwards he was fine. The only thing I had to do was keep his diaper changed and just a good cleaning with warm water every diaperchange for a few days. I watched when the doctor circumcized him, it is a very quick procedure took only about a minute to do.

It is best to have it done when they are newborn. If they have to have it done later for medical reasons it is very painful.

You change the diaper like you would anytime. All I had to do with my son is put some vaseline on it and a gauze pad between it and the diaper. This was only for a couple of days. He wasn't fussy or anything. They took him the day we left the hospital. Sometimes the doctor will deaden it. It really depends on the doctor. I don't know if you know this or not but I found out that your ob/gyn is the one that will perform this. So you can ask him/her about the procedure or any questions you may have. I always thought the pediatrician did it. Good luck and Congrats!

Supposedly, they don't feel much pain during the procedure, because their nervous systems aren't advanced enough. Personally, I think that's bogus. My son had this panicky cry after he was done, that sounded like "OW OW OW OW OW!!!" Still, better to have it done as a baby, than later when he will remember it!

Anyway, they will probably tell you how to care for him, including changing diapers. You mostly don't need to wipe that area, just his bottom. If you do need to wipe there, do it very gently, or just rinse with warm water. You will probably be given some sort of topical ointment to put on him. Just dab gently. Don't let his wet diapers go for too long. And good luck!

It is a painful procedure and some believe pschologically damaging though there is difficulty proving that. They do recieve pain medication but since they are unable to communicate their level of pain there is no way to know if the medication is sufficient.

As for care, it is simple. The nurses will walk you through it but basically it requires a dab of vaseline and maybe guaze with each diaper change.

my son had pain medication and now they also do a local anesthetic when doing a circumcision. it's not like years ago when they used to just cut the skin off. it's not hard to care for a circumcized baby. you just change their diapers as normal and when you do you clean that part of the penis with an alcohol swab, then put some bacitracin/neosporin, whichever antibiotic they tell you to use on a gauze pad and wrap it around his penis. i don't remember how many days you have to di it for, but the hospital should always show you how, explain it and watch you do it. so ask them and make sure you're doing it right.

We got ointment to apply to the circumsized area. The nurses at the hospital were super helpful and if you keep the diapers as clean as possible then you will have no problem. And as far as changing boys' diapers do it fast or you might get pee'd on! lol

now days your ob doctor and the delivery nurses will tell you before you leave the hospital. nothing to it sister i have a girl and boy. so make sure you ask. the pain full part is when they circumcise. however, its like having a baby it hurts but soon the pain is over with. alcohol ,Q-tips, cottonballs. for the bellybutton and clean soap and water for the rest. if they inform you differently follow your doctors advise. make sure the baby is dry and if you have to wash the area be gentle.

when my son was circumcised last year i was told that they did give him baby Tylenol but it depends on the doctor so you should ask before agreeing. as for the afterwards it's not so bad. you change the diapers like any other baby except make sure to put on the ointment they give you so it doesn't get stuck to the diaper. my son didn't seem to have any discomfort at all.

thay arent in pain because babies dont know pain. obviously they will cry but they dont know the true meaning of pain. u change them just like regularly but they will tell you what ointment to put on it. its not hard to take care of. but for him later on in life, get him circumsized. i have dated men that werent and it was a huge turnoff for me. and i have asked several women on theit thoughts on this and they say its a huge turnoff for them too if i guy isnt circumsized. so i say do it. its not hard to take care of and he will thank you later on in life... good luck and enjoy them while they are young! it dont last long!!!!! :)

No Circumsion, how would you like it if some wacko carved up your genitalia. They do that to women in Africa and it is considered a human rights abuse.
