OK so i get really mad that alot of people dont consider cheerleading a sport. I have been tumbling for ever like for our school and in competition and it really does hurt me to practise 3 hours a day, do like a million sit ups, break arms, legs, tumbling, and put in so much work and effort for someone to just denounce it as a sport. So why does everyone think that cheerleading/tumbling isnt a sport????

even when i posted this question under sports.....cheerleading wasnt under there and they had like over 30 sports and gay stuff like fantasy soccer omg give me a break

I had to put it under other

Hmm..okay okay, to be honest I would probably consider Cheerleading a sport. Because...even Badminton is considered a sport and that's almost effortless.. I'm sure yall take alot of energy and endurance to do some of your cheerleading activities...just like gymnists. I think the reason they don't enlist it under Sports much is because sports seem more based on...i dont know...traditional outdoor agreesive playing i guess...and cheerleading seems more like a performance maybe? i think that's it...dat pplz look at cheerleading more like a performance...but it should be considered a sport.

Sports are competition. *Every* time a golfer or a badminton player or a football player etc. officially goes out on the course or court or field, there is a winner and a loser.

Cheerleaders are basically support crew for the team that is competing. When they go out there, they aren't winning or losing. Sure, they have competitions a few times a year, but that's not really what they're all about. They're all about supporting the team. Some cheerleading squads don't even compete; *every* sports team enters competition.

That's not to say that I don't respect cheerleading. I'm constantly amazed at the skill, strength and coordination cheerleaders display. In every sense, they are athletes. But that doesn't doesn't mean it's a sport. Dancing is athletic, and there are competitions, but that's not considered a sport either, because competition is not what dancing is about; competition is only secondary, and lots of dancers don't compete.

Because in most people's minds it's not a sport, it's an extra curricular activity that you participate in. Why don't they consider marching band a sport? People that are involved with that are doing practically what the football team or baseball team does, they learn their routine (in sports, learn the plays), learn the music (know the signs from the coach) compete against other schools for the same goal, to show that they know their stuff better than the other one, plus in marching band and cheerleading they both have everyone taking part although football lacks in this area with only having so many players out on the field lol... anywho, cheerleading and marching band aren't considered sports just because they aren't. You can keep calling it a sport if you like, but it's not going to change the majority vote to saying that it is.

Being considered a sport has nothing to do with the amount of effort you put into it. The following "competitions" are NOT sports because they depend on a person, or persons judging who they THINK is better at what they are doing:

* cheerleading
* gymnastics
* Figure skating

Obviously there are more.

Sports are events where the results can be measured without human subjectivity.

I have a high regard for the effort and athleticism of cheerleaders and they can be very proud of their accomplishments, but sorry, not a sport.

I've seen those championships, on ESPN, and if what they do, isn't athletic, I'll eat my hat. I'm not sure why it's not considered a sport, but as it started out, just as an adjunct to other sports the believe that it isn't a sport, has stuck.
It may have been at one time, just waving pom poms, but anyone seeing those cheerleaders in action, these days, know it's not, just waving pom poms.
They need to get organized better, and spread the word.
Sports in general would be very boring, without those athletic cheerleaders.

Because cheerleaders make it look like fun. That and they have never actually tried to do a lot of the stuff cheerleaders do.
