The best way to change the world is to change yourself first. People will respond to your example better than anything.

Your question reminds me of a time when I was in grade school and I was very interested in picture books of people in other countries. I used to look at the pictures of people in South America or Pakistan, all sorts of places, as the toiled in fields, shopped at markets, etc. And I thought at the time that it will wonderful to one day visit those places so freely and meet the people, maybe live there, etc...but then when I entered adulthood I discovered that peace is elusive and those pictures never told the whole story, and that although the general population (like us) may get along perfectly well, we can't do that because we have leaders who rattle swords and want to be the best, biggest, baddest, and so the world suffers. I wish for that peace you speak of, but won't see it in my lifetime.

Peace is not merely the absence of war, and it is not limited to maintaining a balance of powers between adversaries. Peace is "the tranquility of order." Peace is the work of justice and the effect of charity. Those who renounce violence and bloodshed and, in order to safeguard human rights, make use of those means of defense available to the weakest, bear witness to charity, provided they do so without harming the rights and obligations of other men and societies. They bear legitimate witness to the gravity of the physical and moral risks of recourse to violence, with all its destruction and death.
