well, you need to have 4 points (or maybe 6, depending on the form of ID you want) of identification.

Social security card
Birth certificate
Drivers lisence
library card(w/photo)
school ID(w/photo)
passport.
etc.

each has a different point value, and some may even be 0, get the proper data from the DMV, and request the SSN cards, and birth certificate copies from the government. they will have copies, but will also require ID to get them..

it is a catch 22, and you may be out of luck

Not in any legal kind of way. The best thing is to go through the entire process again, like go to the DMV, Social Security, and anywhere else ( I forget) but if your son is a citizen, shouldn't be no problem.

If you have his brith certificate, then you're all set. He needs to tak it down to the DMV and the social security administration to get new ID.
If you have lost his birht certificate, you may write to the county clerk in the county where he was born for a certified copy. Costs about $11 in most counties.
Hope that helps.

Go to your local Department Of Motor Vehicles. If your son drives, they'll tell him how to replace his license. If he just wants a state ID card, they'll walk him through that too. Both cards will have his photo on it. It makes it harder for thieves to use too.

First, he should contact SS and request a replacement card. Did he have a drivers license, contact your local state MVD and request a replacement. Simple. If he doesn't remember his SS number, he might have difficulty in it taking a bit longer, but it will all work out.

Yes, if he takes a piece of mail to the social security office, he can get a card there. Then he can take that with another piece of mail and get his driver's license.
