Can someone help me paraphrase these poems stanza by stanza or even line by line. Thank yyou so much.

1. Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne'er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.
Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory!

As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!

2. Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chilliest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Paraphrase For Me

Emily is saying that those who always fail would appreciate the "sweetness" of success more than those who have already experienced it. Nectar is the drink of the gods and is used here metaphorically to represent success. In time of need, something quite ordinary can taste like a drink fit for gods. The rest of the poem is an allusion to the battlefield and the victory representing success.

In the second poem, an abstraction, hope, is personified as a bird with attendant qualities of perching and singing. It has to be a very strong storm to overcome the bird, hope, whose song ministers to those who hear it. Emily, herself, has experienced hope in the most desolate of locations. The bird gives, but asks nothing in return.

I hope you like this! Have fun and DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK!

Lydia

1. Triumphant moments are treasured by those who rarely see.
Understanding of enigma painfully in need.
None of all the colorful patrons
Who took the prize today,
Can comprehend the end of battle
Won by outnumbered soldiers three.

As they sat in hopeless glee
A cry on accidental ears
Of far away chorus
Victorious and clear!

2. Faith is a like a bird
That clings to the heart
It coos quietly
And ne’er falls apart,

And the whisper barely heard
Troubled by a storm
That could crash the tiny flying tone
That safely kept the rhythm
Of the beating drum.

I have heard in the coldest place
And in the strangest seas of dreams,
Yet, not, even in extremity.
It has never asked a favor of me.
