there are rumors of a hotel in Thailand with 5100 rooms, I couldnt find any evidence of anything larger than the MGM Grand, which boasts a whopping 5034 rooms. Amenities include a sports arena, entertainment dome, and a wedding chapel, not to mention numerous bars and restaurants.

With 4,408 rooms, the distinctively shaped Luxor is the second largest hotel in the world. The 30-story pyramid is topped by one of the world's brightest beams of light, which illuminates the Veags skyline.

The Venetian, a mammoth 12-million-square-foot casino, convention center, resort, and entertainment complex comes in third place. Opened in May of 1999, the hotel offers 4049 guest suites, a 65,000 square foot spa, 16 restaurants, 2 museums, a mall, and recreations of all of Venice's major attractions, right down to the Grand Canal. And its standard guest suites have been dubbed the largest standard hotel rooms by the Guiness Book of World Records.

If completed as planned, the First World Hotel and Resorts complex in Payang, Malaysia, may wrest the title of largest hotel from the MGM. It currently offers 3228 rooms, but plans call for a grand total of 6300 rooms.

The reason this question gets different answers is because it depends on how you are measuring "largest" and how strict you are in your definition of what constitutes one hotel.

By most common measures, MGM Grand is the largest with 5034 rooms. There are at least two hotels in Asia that have claimed to have more than 6,000 but those claims appear to have been false and more accurate numbers place them in the 4,000 room range.

Second is Luxor with 4408 rooms.

Third is Mandalay Bay with 4332 rooms, but here's where it starts to get sticky. That 4332 rooms includings THEhotel and The Four Seasons, which act as completely separate entities with separate check-ins, separate amenities, and different room styles. In fact, THEhotel is in a totally separate tower with its own entrance.

The reason this is important is because Palazzo will be opening in 2007. This is the new hotel that will be integrated with The Venetian but will act as a separate resort. But you can bet they will claim those rooms are part of the overall property so they can be "largest" with more than 7,000 rooms total.

But if we're going to count that, should we then also count The Signature at MGM Grand, three condo/hotels that have 576 rooms apiece?

And then comes the question of "largest" in terms of number of rooms or largest in terms of square-footage. If you use the latter then The Venetian is already largest because they count the Sands Expo center.

So you can see why it starts to not be as easy of a question as it seems.

But the most widely accepted answer these days is the MGM Grand with 5034 rooms.
