I work around music business. First, you have to be good, second you have to accept the fact you will not make any money in the beginning of your career (most of your money will be "stolen" from you thru under the table deals with the record company), third, you have to be recognized somehow, bars, parties, shows, contests, etc. It's a hard business, especially in the hip-hop business. Mainly, you have to get recognized, and if your not recognized, it most of the time (80%) means your not good, but some people live in small populated cities so they dont get recognized. If your not good, people won talk about you, if you are, you'd be the talk of the city, but to be recognized you have to do the things I listed above, go to clubs, parties, do what you gotta do to be noticed, then you can could be scouted by a record company.

Take singing lessons. They help A LOT! (not saying you need help, but they are really good if you have a good teacher) A couple years ago i sounded nothing like i do now. Voice lessons have made me sound better. Just make sure you get a good teacher. (all of that if you haven't already taken them...)

Work hard and see if you have any famous family members or ppl who know ppl that could get you in.Cuz I know Ne-yo got in the game when his friend went to go see someone and he played the tape and the person liked it.If not try any possible way that you could get in the game.

its not that you get into it....you have to have the ability to sing, not be afraid to sing in front of people and have the drive to go out there and try it. It's amazing at who was discovered where. MySpace has music producers on it....you just have to make sure they are legit.
