if you dont want to read the whole thing ive tried to make it as simple as possible at the very bottom... after the edit....
we follow our instinct autonomously until we are made self aware... then we start to learn better control of ourselves by making sense of things through language and also consequently obtaining a better sense of reality...
when guided by instinct you just go with the flow and there really is no ,consciousce or guided, thought on your part... it does the thinking for you and your just part of the ride...
its a self guided program your immersed in...where your mind automatically picks out things which stand out... then automatically your body contemplates this thing and your subconscious reflex guides you either to it or to react to it, and/or investigate it further if it sees that need to... otherwise it moves on until it you notice something else to react upon....
through this animal thinking everything you think is mostly like a picture... but its not a picture.... its a memory of exactly what senses where stimulated in that moment... which also makes it seem like you see something... its hard to describe how this works... but using this you have an exact memory for that moment.. and an exact way to react when in that moment...this is your thoughts... the more you learn the more is programmed into your autonomacy...
also sometimes you can see this program in action... with dreams... automatically you know what to do in them...and its more like a movie playing out...
this explains why dogs twitch their legs sometimes.. or cry, whine, yelp or bark while sleeping... their dreams are everyday acts inputed into the autonomacy program... then while their asleep it randomly creates stimulations one would find in the real world... its still unkown what purpose this serves though... while sleeping i mean...
also without thoughts we tend to dwell on doing the things that feel good... and conveniently enough instinct has it so the things which feel good are the right things to do (mostly)...
it isnt until later in life that our consciousceness of the world can realize that to gain some things you want ... you must sacrifice some things or do things not feeling good to get what you want.
anyway, for what you asked the same thing mentioned above applies for deaf and blind people... whatever stimulations stand out more than others is what they think about... and through their own program of autonomacy... they know what to do and what not to do... we still have our insctinct to rely on... and they have the same feelings of hunger and pain... etc as we do.... and this is what they focus on... the feelings and/or the pictures that guide them....
a blind person dreams about what they felt or heard... making sense of it in their own way that works for them to survive and be happy....
a deaf person dreams about what they saw and felt and tends to dwell on these senses in reality as well toward a sytem that works for them...
-sorry if this is choppy and random... but i hope it helps...
----------*edit*-----------
ill clarify this a little... i realize its not very eloquent an answer...
basically like somone had said above before we associate things with words.... we associate things with our senses (stimulations).... and it is the good and bad things which guide us... as children we have a memory of the exact stimulations we had at that specific moment... which also forms a picture in our mind with certain "feelings" associated with them...
randomly things relavant to the current situation flash in our mind...like pictures with feelings... and we then decide( mostly subconsciously) which to act upon... its more like falling into preset actions...
choosing one of these preset actions most relevent... means going into the same stimulations we had before that would work in this situation... i really hope this makes sense... its so hard to explain...
__________________________
-------------------------------------------
anyway this is our thoughts...
overall sense of good and bad for situations
exact memory of the feelings or the senses we had in those situations before we came to the good or bad feeling
having these previous situations with the the associated stimulations and feelings flash in our mind, as relevent as the mind can make them, for the current situation we must react to
choosing to act upon one or several of these preset actions and learning to define these actions as good or bad for the situation... and using trial and error until we learn which is best for that situation...

i knew the answer but ive never tried to explain it... so i was kindof talking myself through it trying to clarify things along the way until i knew how to best describe what i meant to say... sorry about the mess...

With babies it is known as sensory association---they have very acute senses and know when whatever the input is-- feels good and is pleasant or doesn't---that 'whatever' gets logged away as a positive or negative feeling--as they begin to associated words with these same feelings is when language begins ---word associations as opposed to simple feelings association--there is an intermediary step in there also where images (vision associations) begin to play bigger and bigger roles as well------
As far as your followup question is concerned the input of dog behavior here is another matter for another space and time but the thing with people who are deaf and blind as their mental capacities develop-- the other senses become far more accute in most of these individuals and in some cases they become extremely capable in things one can not explain because of those hieghtened awareness quotions

Who said babies don't think? Is evident they have a souls like us.For example picture your self inside a little body, you have thoughts the only thing you need to practice is on how to get use to the little body and learn how to communicate.

They don't, until they learn it from adults. At that point, it's just perception and reaction. Organized action, like catching a ball or dancing or crawling can be handled unconsciously, i.e. the cerebellum and other motor areas of the cortex.

Well with babies, words are eventually associated with things. Until then, it's just pictures and memories.

Rather than thinking in a language they think based on recognition. Certain sounds and sites stimulate a babies brain. They recognize voices and faces. Same with dogs.

Why do you need language to think?
If someone throws a ball at you what do you do? You catch it, duck or get hit. Catching it or ducking involves thinking. Do you think that everyone who can't talk will get hit?

i would have to say that their thoughts don't come to them in words but in images in your head. a thought would be a series of images going through your head
