I think the best all-around linebacker ever is Mike Singletary. He gets overshadowed a lot by Dick Butkus, but I would take singletary any day. He doesn;t have the reputation for being as vicious as Butkus, but Singletary was probably the most complete LB to ever play. He had incredible instincts and was one of the smartest players in the game. He was fast, he could hit like a madman, and you never saw him away from the play. Even if he wasn't in on the tackle, he was always within a yard or two of the ball. Singletary was also a team player, and a great teammate and leader, and he had humility to go along with it. He didn't feel the need to run his mouth or pose down after every play a la Ray Lewis. He let his game do his talking, and that was more intimidating than anything he could have said.

Greatest Middle Linebacker was Dick Butkas.

Outside linebacker has to be LT. He made the 3-4 what it is.

My Personal Favorite

Lawerence Talyor, do I even need to explain?

Jack Lambert, hit so hard, most running backs ran away from him.

Greg Llyod, his tackles almost scared rookies from playing for anyother teams. Even the Defensive coordinator was thankful he wasn't playing against him.

Bil Romoknowski, hit so hard he broke Kerry Collins jaw.

My List

1. Jared Morris - Jared simply had all of the tools. I truly believe that if Jared would have been able to stay healthy at Texas A&M University ; we would be watching him play on Sunday afternoons for the National Football League. Jared was very physical and had good speed, but his biggest strength was simply his ability to find the football. Morris started for three years at Brownwood and was an extension of the coaching staff on the field. He was very intelligent and knew everyone's responsibilities on the defensive side of the ball. Linebackers as gifted as Jared do not come around very often. His work ethic and natural ability land him the top spot for the decade.

2. Britton Maxwell – Here is a current player to add to the list that we can continue to watch for the remainder of the season. Out of the 5 linebackers on the list, Britton is without question the fastest. Britton will throw his body as hard as he can into anything that steps in front of him. It has been obvious in the last two games that the offensive game plans were designed to either stay away from Britton or account for him with double team blocking. I believe that once our defense really gels together, Britton will shine as the defensive leader and we will see his ability take over. Britton's strengths are no doubt his speed and his physical play. If he comes on strong throughout district play, we can anticipate getting to watch Britton play for some lucky team at the next level.

3. Chris Evans – This is a linebacker who played with more heart than any player that I have seen suit up for the lions. He had a career that was just eaten up with knee injuries, yet he still rises to the top and he is still considered one of the best linebackers of the decade. I have never wanted to see a player come back from injury like I wanted Chris to. The reason was simply because he deserved to be out there. He was the leader of the defense, but he was also the leader of that team his senior year. He got more out of a broken down body than anyone could have expected and he did it without any complaints. Chris had good speed and was very smart, but Chris just had the heart of a great football player. That kind of heart made the others around him take their game to the next level. There is no doubt in my mind that his leadership has helped mold Britton and the other linebackers into the players they are right now.

4. Daniel Constancio – Daniel has been long removed from the program, but he left his mark as one of the top linebackers of this decade. Daniel was on the 1996 and 1997 teams through the rebuilding years. He raised the bar when it came to linebacker play and set the tone for leadership in the future. Daniel was just one of those quiet guys who worked his way to the top. I would probably say that his work ethic topped the board when it came to off-season preparation. I remember when he was in school, he asked the coaches if he could get his after school workout late in the evening because he needed to work. So, I know for at least 2 years, he was committed every evening to getting a workout late in the evening after a long days work and school. He was committed to the program and decided himself how linebackers were going to play in Brownwood .

5. Dominic Williams - Dominic rounds out the top five as one of the quicker and more athletic type linebackers. He had the same playing style as Derrick Johnson from the University of Texas . He was a very light linebacker, but what he lacked in weight, he made for with speed. Dominic is the only linebacker who did not play in the middle at some point. He brought speed from the edge in pressure situations, but he could cover a man down field when needed. He really is nothing like the other backers. He had the ability to run around blocks as opposed to running through them. He could find the ball and catch up to it without actually having to plug a hole.

Mike Singletary. He was incredibley intense. Did you ever see video or pictures of his face while playing. I would scared to run up the middle and see him baring down on me.
