It will be a very interesting and tightly fought match (might go into extra time & I won't rule out penalties).
Spain were placed in an easy group, so they have come out tops. Don't write them off entirely though, they have an in-form attack but their defense I have seen to be very mediocre.
France, on the other hand have had a good attack, but they lack the finishing touch that is expected from a world-class side. But then, their biggest strength lies in their defence with the likes of Thuram, Makalele, Silvestre etc. who have been absolutely rock-solid throughout the tournament.
Trust me, the French defense will give Spain a really hard time. But for how long? There are too many old legs in the French side (as you could observe against Switzerland). As we have seen how relentless and fit the Spaniards have been in attacking & creating chances, we could expect atleast a goal or two from the Spanish forwards in the second half.
Look also the other way, Zidane is coming back & he is still dangerous despite his age & if he can combine with Trezeguet & Henry, then France can still score a few goals (although they will have to work tremendously hard for it).
All in all, I think it will be a 1-1 draw or 2-2 draw & will go into extra time.

I'm watching France now and in this game against Togo they've stepped their game up. Spain is known for losing games when they matter the most, but I think they have more depth in every position as opposed to France. So I'd actually give Spain the 2-1 edge in the round of 16 match. It'll be a dandy that's for sure.

Spain will handily defeat France.
Spain has been playing much better and is a very good team as a whole. The French on the other hand, have struggled throughout the tournament, and there is no reason to believe they wont in the playoffs as well.
Spain wins 3-1.
