all teams under the South American continent (CONMEBOL) compete in the Copa America plus two invited teams (usually MEXICO & either COSTA RICA or UNITED STATES). The teams are:
ARGENTINA
BOLIVIA
BRAZIL
CHILE
COLOMBIA
ECUADOR
PARAGUAY
PERU
URUGUAY
VENEZUELA
The Copa America is the oldest continental championship when it began in 1910, long before the first World Cup in 1930. ARGENTINA is the most successful team with 15 championship wins in the competition.
BRAZIL won the last Copa America in Peru in 2004, beating their arch rivals ARGENTINA 4-2 on penalties after the score has tied at 1-1 after extra time.
The next Copa America will be held in Venezuela in July 2007.
