And if it is, why? Also, which is better, the sheets or the liquid form?

No. If you do decide yo use fabric softener, the liquid seems to make things much softer.

No. Fabric softener serves to do two things to your laundry. First it makes the clothes softer (hence the name). The second is that it (usually) contains a scent that remains on the clothes after the wash is complete. This may or may not be desirable. In the event that you like the softer feel of using fabric softener, but don't like the scent, several brands now make unscented fabric softeners.

In at least one type of laundry it is reported to be a bad idea to use fabric softener and that is towels. According to what I have heard, it reduces the towels absorbency. Though, I admit, I have never been able to tell the difference myself.

It depends on how hard or soft your water is, and the weather conditions of your area. If you have a vast difference in humidity, you'll have more static. If your clothes snap, crackle and pop when you bring them out of the dryer and they're clinging to themselves for dear life, then you need fabric softener. If you don't get zapped by your laundry, or if you're not zapping anyone else, then you don't need it. It does actually make the clothes feel better against your skin. Oh, a footnote with fabric softener...if you use it on towels they will not be as absorbent, so you might want to skip using it on them.

Don't just skip detergent because you think it will cause irritation. Use the detergent you have. It will only cause irritation if your baby sister has allergies that cause sensitive skin. If not, just, use normal detergent and call it good. Just use a little if it bothers you, I am willing to be it will be fine. I've been using Tide since our daughter was a newborn and she is 2.5 and never had skin problems. PS Yes anime fan is right. You can use vinegar in the wash cycle. It's a natural sanitizer and no it won't make the clothes smelly once it has gone though the whole cycle, they will smell clean. Don't use vinegar and detergent together, use one or the other. Charity is right too, shampoo would work fine, just add a small amount. It doesn't have to be baby shampoo though, it could be any kind.

Why Use Fabric Softener

Fabric isn't absolutely necessary. But it does make clothes softer and have less static cling. Liquid is better if you air dry your clothers. Otherwise, sheets are fine in the dryer.

No not really. Fabric softener makes clothes nice and soft while dryer sheets reduce static cling and a nice scent.

It probably ok since she isn't a newborn anymore. I do suggest leaving out the softener though because it's nor necessary. Also you could double rinse just to be sure.

not if you put sheets in the dryer but if u r doing clothes that r not meant to be dried then use the liquid in the wash and wash your delicate alone do not dry them. The dryer may cause them to rip or shrink.

I don't like it because I think it makes my skin itchy , I maybe allergic or sensitive to it. But my husband and his family use it and those strong smelling dryer sheets, in every wash to soften the clothes...but they smell like it , there homes reek with the smell of fabric softner...and they don't realize it. I don't use it in my home because I want people to smell my perfume and I don't like uneccessary chemicals in my home.
