I took Depo Provera shots for six years and never had a period during that time. I decided I wanted to switch methods because the doctor said I had taken it for too many years, so the day I was due to get another shot, I went and got the Nuva Ring. I used it for a month and a half and didn't like it so I took it out. Since that time me and my husband of 7 years have been using the pull out method so I could get back on some kind of normal cycle and we're waiting to plan a pregnancy a little while longer. All this happened in February and since then I have had a period every month but they are like dried up brown blood but last about a week each time. This month I had two which were only 11 days apart. Am I still adjusting to long term birth control? If so, will this last much longer? I plan to see a doctor but couldn't get an appointment till next month and this is bothering me until then.

It's going to take your body quite a while to try to find its own hormone balance. You have been using birth control methods that have been artificially changing the hormones and your body is confused. I would go in and get a blood test to test your levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. I think that in about 3 more months, it will probably correct itself, but I would go to the gyn just in case. I would suggest you never go back on any type of hormone related birth control though.

Hi when you called your doctor, did you explain to her what is happening? It sounds like 'old dried blood' to me. I am not sure what it all means though as I am not a doctor myself. As for the pull out method, not very reliable. I hope you are ready for pregnancy at any time in the near future, Maybe you would like using a diaphragm. You can put it in at the last minute or in advance (not too far though, maybe a few hours, ask the MD when you go to see her. Make a list of all your questions so you don't forget any thing.)
Hope all is well and that you get straightened out. Call the MD's office now and ask her to call you so that you can ask her your self if you should be seen sooner.
Good Luck

It's probably your body still adjusting to no extra hormones. You know, if you really want to plan your pregnancy a little later, use condoms until you find another bc that works for you. I know it seems weird to ask your husband to use a condom but, if you really don't want a baby yet, that's your best bet until you are and you can definitely get a more normal cycle because you won't have the crazy hormones in your system.

Brown blood means that the blood is traveling slowly thru your organs. When it is bright or really red it means that it is continuing fast or steady pace. I wouldn't worry too much.
(I only get mine like every 4 months and when I do it is alot and it is bright red and it is big bubbles or masses)
