If you are bothered by leeches don't go in the water. But what does this have to do with the history? You are in the wrong category.
To MJ above: that was a movie. That will not happen. Hollywood spin only. How old are you? 8? Jesus, grow a brain.

When I was little, my family would go to a beach in NH all the time and if you went over near the slide you would always end up with leeches. When we would get out of the water we would see the leeches and start screaming. My mom would very calmly go and get the salt shaker and sprinkle it on the leech. The leech would immediately peel off. It did not hurt. As a matter of fact hospitals and doctors use leeches to this day for certain type of blood disorders and poison. My uncle use to have to put them on his arm so the leech could draw out the infection. It worked and he did real good after that. The leeches are not all bad. God put them on this earth for some reason.

Bull SHIIIIITT!! Be afraid, don't go in the dam water! Have you ever seen any of the Faces of Death documentaries? Did you ever catch the one where a bunch of teenagers were swimming in a lake and one of the teens had a like 2 foot leech on his arm? THey didn't know what to do so they tried cutting the leech with a knife, they tried burning it, little did they know that the leech would attach itself deeper into the guy/girls' skin, I don't remember if it was a guy or girl, but they had to end up amputating the arm.
I say don't get in that water!!

Unless you're interested in discovering the History of Leeches, why would you place your question in the "History" category?

No. In the unlikely event that one does suck on then just pull it off and chuck it. Or get one of the boys to do it. I used to go fishing, often, and even went under the water to get right in where the fish were.- It was like called ginneling, like you used your hands to catch them.- Anyhows, i spent maybe hundreds of hours fishing like that and there was allways leaches, but you just have to forget about them and have fun. ... Lol, and there was eels. Uugh, but you just ignore them after a while.
