Yes, you can do it.

Dig up the old one and twist it out. Bring it with you to the hardware store (e.g. Lowes) in search of a replacement of the same brand.

Along with replacement parts you might grab a $10 paperback book on sprinkler maintenance and repair. Worth the money. Good luck.

It's not difficult, just time consuming. Most parts that break are those that are threaded (connectors) or those that move (shafts within the heads) which also come apart. Just dig them out, turn on the affected zone to identify where the leak is, remove the affected parts, purchase new (take the old stuff with you to the store), and reinstall. After you've done it once you'll have no problem repairing any other problems you may encounter.

llocate the source of the leak and then find out what type of piece broke; ie a line, a sprinkler head, or a bend or fitting. Take it to a local supplier and replace it. Next year, be sure to turn it off for winter and that the lines are blown out.
