I love him, (the man) but my dog's been around a lot longer! My fiance is so protective of insects, frogs, even plants. But he hates my dog. I have a chocolate lab, and he is a big dog, but very sweet. It's the only doubt I have about marrying this guy. But I Love My Dog!

Any guy who doesn't like dogs has something wrong with him. Especially a chocolate lab. They're the friendliest, most loyal dogs around. You should find out why he doesn't like your dog before you seal the deal and marry him. It may turn out that there a lot more things he doesn't like and that could become a disaster. Good luck.

I wouldn't have gotten involved with someone who didn't love my pet, that's for sure. My boyfriend is lucky to have me for many reasons, but one of them being that I absolutely LOVE his giant dog. What exactly is your fiance's problem with the dog? Is it disobedient? Is it a mean animal? If so, that's your problem right there. If not, ask him to give the dog a chance. It's your pet, and you say you've had the dog a long time...how much longer do you expect it to live?
A friend of mine at work had a similar problem to you, but her boyfriend was the one with the dog. He moved in with her and she wasn't too keen on the dog. She admitted it was cute but she didn't know how to deal with it. I gave her some dog friendly tips and now she just loves his dog. Maybe if your fiance got to know the dog a little bit better, he might wind up loving it despite himself. If he loves you, he'll at least stick it out seeing as your pet is older. Good luck!

Years ago I hero-worshiped a loser who ( it turned out) did not like dogs. Come to find out he is not a nice person at all, and when I realized that I ran away--quickly. Its weird your guy would be protective of plants, for gosh sakes. I wonder if he sees your dog as competition? If so, I wonder if he would look at any child you had in the same way? Does he expect you to give up your pet to marry him? Is he abusive or harsh with the dog in any way, or does he just ignore him? Something to think about. I say love me, love my pet!

Maybe he had some tragic incident with a dog! I don't know! IT SOUNDS WEIRD THAT A MAN WOULDN'T LIKE A DOG! MAYBE A CAT! BUT NOT A dog. I don't know! Choc. Labs are awesome and so friendly! Find out if he's jealous or just doesn't like your dog!

no i don't think you should, what if he hated your kid? your dog is your responsibility, you got him and brought him home and agreed to care for him throughout his life...does your dog behave properly? why doesn't he like the dog? some people don't train their dogs properly so living with them is not a pleasant experience, if thats the problem start teaching the dog. i mean i don't think the bf should put up with a destructive or misbehaved animal (especially a large dog) but i dont think you abandon your dog either. figure out the whys of the situation and correct them.

This is just a guess, but he probably feels like he is competing with your dog for affection; and in reality, he might be. More common than you might think.
