Well if you don't have anybody to drive you to the hospital when you start your labor, you can always call 911 and they will get you to the hospital. By law, they are required to assist you when you need help. So that's an alternative.

For now, see if you can find someone that will be able to help you when that time comes - someone who'll drive you to the hospital because even if you can drive yourself, you should not drive while having labor contractions - too dangerous. Enlist the help of a friend, or a neighbor or a family member - once you feel you're in labor, call them (have the number nearby) so that they can come and get you. I doubt that you'll have the baby out really fast anyway, so I don't think that you'll be giving birth alone by yourself while waiting for your ride. So don't be scared, be proactive, and start planning that day so you won't be in a panic when the day comes.

Good luck!

1. Have a friend or family member with a car stay with you or have someone on standby when you go into labor.

2. Call 911 and have the ambulance pick you up and take you to the hospital. When I went into labor with my daughter it was during morning rush hour, about a mile before we got to the interstate we had to call an ambulance because traffic was stopped and that was the only thing we could think to do. It may not be the best way, but at least we arrived at the hospital before she was born.

Congragulations and Good Luck!!!

To the person who said, "Get a car," cars are expensive and the asker probably can't afford one or else she would have one. Anyway, do you have any friends or family who could help out? Otherwise, when you go into labor call an ambulance. In terms of getting yourself around with your baby, contact a local church and just tell them you need help. Churches are usually very glad to help, and someone will probably offer to give you rides to the store and doctor's. Good luck!

What are you scared of not driving or having a baby? There's nothing wrong with being scared as long as it doesn't take over your life and you stop living. I refuse to live my life in fear of anything except the wrath of God. I think if you compare everything else to that, it all seems so small and kinda silly.

Do you have family or friends that would give you a ride? How about the baby's father. Or worst comes to worst call an ambulance when the time comes.
Don't worry about something so trivial.

Set aside taxi money. Have a few friends phone numbers on hand, and if all else fails call 911. you can't have the baby at home.

Start driving if you feel safe doing it. Always keep a cell phone with you and don't always rely on somone to get you places, it is a nice luxury but don't count on it. You could always try taxi, bus, train, subway, or whatever other resources you have. JUST DON'T STRESS OUT!

Always remember: If there is any form of fluid leaking per vagina (be it watery or blood), call family or friend (or even your neighbours) to take you to the hospital. If there's no one there, call for an ambulance.

The most important thing is not to panic.

I did not know you had to drive to have a baby. What did mothers do before there were cars?

relax. It is normal to be nervous. Your life is going to change . You should arrange for a ride to the hospital thru a friend or a relative.
