It's the perfect key for messing up maneuvering around in Excel.

The scroll lock key isn't very useful anymore. But back when people used DOS, sometimes the words would scroll too fast on the screen, and scroll lock would "lock" the screen from scrolling.

a scroll lock key, will allow you to use your direction keys (up,down,left and right arrow keys) to scroll through a window without moving your cursor

It makes the keypad buttons with the arrows actually arrow in the direction indicated.

The 10-key pad that is.
