In other words, you are stupid if you act stupid. Take ol' Forrest Gump himself, for instance. Sure, he was a few fries short of a Happy Meal, but he was a good person, and didn't try to hurt others. True stupidity is when you act for no reason or out of malice. I mean, how brainy is it to go out and destroy things just because you feel like it? That way, neither you nor anyone else can ever enjoy them again.

Stupid is a judgement call. You see someone doing something stupid and you might call that person stupid. It is also semi-circular logic, something is stupid because it does something stupid, but the catch is still that one is still saying that stupid is judged by actions. If all you saw of someone is the one brilliant action of their life, you might see them as brilliant because you didn't see all the other things they did.
Hence, the saying is a critique that "stupid" is a perception, not a literal truth.

your only as stupid as the things you do. for instance my little sister has downs syndrom she once stole my neighbors newspaper. I have an iq of 135 but i once shot a flaming arrow through the same neighbors bedroom window. Who's stupider?
