Considering it is open to anybody to write anything, how can it be used as fact. Reminds me of the Bible!

That's a very good question. Whenever I pose a question on here, I'd rather not get copy & paste answers from Wikipedia, or as a friend of mine calls 'em, "wiki quickies."

I often try to ask questions that require people to think instead of taking the lazy way out just to score points. Also, simple yes or no answers don't impress me much, and I am less likely to choose them for "best answer." Do some research, and don't be afraid to dig!

Another pet peeve is when people game for points by saying something like "Huh?" or "Why would you ask that?"

I think, therefore I am ;)

Yeah it's a puzzle, I heard about some guys that used Wikipedia as a reference in an essay and were failed when they quoted it. Some of it is okay but I wouldn't ever use it to write up a Ph.D. or anything...and if people are using Wikipedia to get answers why don't the poeple asking just look it up there themselves?

Don't you read? A study was done between it and Britannica Encyclopedia and Wiki was equal and or better in most cases than Britannica. I own a set of Britannica and paid very good money for them so while I would like to be insulted by this, facts are facts. In most cases, it was stated that erroneous entries in Wiki were corrected within 5 minutes of change. I guess they are keeping an eye out. Also, now to make entries, I don't believe you can make anonymous entries can you. You have to join? So if your there just to screw up the entries they can boot you.

It's an independent source, so it's trustworthy. If there's wrong information, people are free to correct it. Wikipedia is much better than the Bible. Don't quote me on that.

I have wondered the same thing. It does make sense, come to think of it. If yahoo wanted you to have facts, they wouldn't be letting us answer our own questions. In a way, Wikipedia is Yahoo Answers on steroids!

It's actually a really good source. It's self-editting (i.e. if there is wrong info, people correct it) and the people that contribute are often experts in the field.

Whatever someone writes its automaticly copyrighted. And techniclly you are not supposed to plagerize. But it is still a sourse of information.
