Definitely depends on what type of music you prefer to listen to and what your mood happens to be at the time.
If you're asking to see what my favorite band is, because you are wanting to experience what others are listening to, then I would tell you Collective Soul. I have always been a huge fan of guitar riffs that are unique. Collective Soul is just that band that can do this. I can tell a new song by them when I hear it on the radio.
Their first album, Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid, provided the world with a glimpse of the musical genius of Ed Roland.
If you want to see what I am talking about, then get the cd, The Seven Year Itch, because it is a greatest hits collection. You'll be surprised at how many songs you actually know of their's.

Although every rock band owes their success to The Beatles, it was Pink Floyd that really developed the experimental/improvisation style that a lot of bands use for writing today.
Pink Floyd, hands down.
