I think there have been a lot of crucial bad calls, the worst was when the french scored and weren't awarded a goal. The giving of cards doesn't seem consistent, so I doubt if it's a fifa policy. I've watched the last 4 world cups and this is the first time the officiating has gotten so much attention. Hopefully it will improve in the next rounds.

I believe we are a culture that find it difficult to comprehend a sport where flopping is such a huge part of the game. Basketball has the same problem. If anyone watched the finals, they'd be upset at the refs for giving the trophy to Wade and the Heat. You shoot over 40 foul shots in two back to back games (For one person) and you better win. Same thing can be said for the World Cup. Team USA was on the wrong end of calls for two straight games. Was it the referee's fault? or was it the fact that soccer is game where flopping is perceived as part of the game? I don't watch a ton of soccer but I find increasingly difficult to watch a game where fouls are constantly called because someone falls to the ground (most of time un touched). I'm more angry at the players for taking a dive more than the refs calling it. The next time some player is rolling around on the ground looking like their ankle just exploded I think they should be carted off the field and have to sit out for three games. I'm sorry but I really get annoyed when I see these lie on the ground faking an injury only to get up and run around for another 80 mins like nothing happened. It may be the fact that I watch alot of American Football where players get beaten up all the time and what do they do? They get up. They don't lie on the ground after a hit, they get up.

Well I believe in clean play, my children play the sport here in Canada, and you can see some teams that can play pretty dirty, it seems that they want to win at anyone injury expense. The coaches allow it and referee seem at times they pick sides, and you see a very uncontrolled game. I don't know if Fifa wants to promote skill players or is it to control games before they get out of hand. The only thing I notice at the moment there has been many errors in the calls in this World Cup. It is very frustrated to watch a game like that. Or it may just be a power trip issue.

FIFA talked about making the game more tilted toward offense--hence the knuckling, 14-panel ball and increased number of cards against aggressive defense. But the officials seem to be over-active on offsides calls as well...which goes against the whole idea of boosting goals. They're a weird bunch, and they're getting too involved in the matches. Past keeping the players from maiming each other or cheating blatantly, a referee doesn't need to do too much.

those pricks are acting like real retards, man. at the usa vs italy game, the ref showed three red cards in the first half, and in the second half he didnt call a single foul. how is he gonna explain that, man, if anybody asked him. they all look like some old fools who dont have the slightest idea whats goin on, or what theyre supposed to be doing. one fool even smilin when he gave a yellow card at one of the games, man, smilin, and his face was like "haha, im the referee and i can do whatever i want. you didnt expect this, did you. well heres your card, you tackled the guy and now you get a card; youre probably too young to understand what a card means, but thats how it is, and i dont have time to talk to you about anything, so im just gonna act like youre a 5 year old came to play soccer, and dont know any of the rules."
what did fifa get these referees from, man.

yep....FIFA wants the game to become less aggressive, unfortauntly it is affecting the way games are being played....watching 10 vs 9 is NOT a great soccer game...especially when the final 20-30 minutes the players are so tired of running in so much open space that they cant play no more.
BAd news is FIFA is quiet happy with how the refs having been acting (don't know WHAT games THEY are watching!)
