The Carolina Hurricanes equiptment manager Wally Tatomir was in the locker room picking up the Cup and accidently dropped leaving a slight crack in the top part of the Cup. It's not that bad, but none of the players can take it back to their hometown until it gets fixed. I guess thats not what you wanted to hear but thats what happened.

Was Wally pretending he was a NASCAR driver and using it as a steering wheel while making vrrrrroooom vrrrrrooom noises in the locker room? You know, showing it some good 'ol Car-o-lina red-neck reeeeee-spect.

No it if it is down in the south it is getting good southern hospitality. Maybe it was an accident. I am pretty sure there has been worse down to it.
