I loved the Bahamas!! My husband and I went there on our honeymoon. We stayed at Sandals and hardly left the resort. We went snorkeling and the water is so pretty and clear!! It's a very beautiful place and I would love to go back!! We did go visit Atlantis, which is gorgeous and has the largest underground aquarium... it is amazing!! I would defiantely make a trip to see Atlantis!!

Nassau has an extortionate crime rate- murder, rape, robbery etc. which are all so high in accordance with their population, a lot of drug problems and corruption. I reside in Freeport, Grand Bahama part the year and consider it SO much more safe, as well as being more peaceful with quieter beaches and beautiful resorts with all the activities you are looking for, just stay central in Port Lucaya hotels such as the Westin/Sheratin. Nassau has a population more than twice that of Freeport- yet if you look at the map Nassau is a fraction of the size! hope this helped.

Nassau is pretty dirty and it's not really a safe place to be out off of resort grounds after dark. Poverty feeds crime. I'd pick any of a thousand nicer destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico or Costa Rica.

It's okay ... we stayed at the British Colonial Hilton. The things I didn't like about it were: raw sewage pouring into the ocean just behind the hotel ... everybody is looking for a tip ... the restaurants are all a-la-carte ...
but there were some really nice things, too: Beautiful views, cruise ships coming and going, great weather.

However, my advice to you: Go to Hawaii ... cleaner, cheaper, prettier, not as likely to get ripped off, US dollars, more hotel choices, more restaurant choices, more activity choices.

I was there on Tuesday. It's great to shop. Got a Movado watch that retails here for $700 with discount for $497 (reg. $1000). Lots of shopping - have to go to the straw market. Go to paradise Island too. Don't just buy without bargaining. You can get everything cheaper and just don't buy from the first person you see because you will find it cheaper somewhere else. Go to Atlantis too.

If your thinking of going but you are not sure if you would like it then try a cruise. Many eastern caribbean cruises stop there. Take an excursion and if you like what you see then you can plan on going there on your next vacation or you might just find another place you like better.

If you gamble it's nice but Nassau is dirty and a big tourist trap.
