Addendum: The substances admitted in the death chamber all have legitimate medical purposes in other contexts. Just because the specific amount and combination kills the patient doesn't mean they're not medicine. Like curare, a lethal poison, which is also a surgical anesthesia.

Not successfully. It is not a medical procedure and is not done by a doctor.

Probably not. Lethal injections are done to take a life which is contrary to the purpose of medicine. Medicine, by definition and purpose, is supposed to cure and/or heal injury, illness and disesase. There are no common denominators between the purpose of a leathal injection and the purposes of modern medicine.

maybe they are hanged instead? If you commit a capital offense, and all of them are against your religion, I'd guess that you couldn't use your religion as an excuse. But, the argument probably lies in the fact that doctor's don't perform lethal injections, and it isn't medical. But if he argued hard enough, he could probably get someone to hang him, instead (or electrocute)

Well, since a true Christian Scientist wouldn't commit a crime worthy of landing them on death row, I think it is fair to say that any complaints about lethal injection are moot.

No, once you have commited a crime that leads to the lethal injection your rights no longer exsist... By taking the criminal action that put you in that situation you basiclly say "f*ck you and your laws and freedoms America".

Taken at face value, the Christian Science argument against medicine (that prayer is all that is need to ensure their god's will) would seem to support your contention. A convicted Christian Scientist sentenced to death would need to be strapped to the stretcher and pray himself/herself to death!

Nice question!

What is injected into a person in the death chamber is not medicine, but poison. The condemned person does not get any options as to how he is to die orhow death is to be administered.

lol, in a few states you can choose what method you would like, so they would presumably choose some other method
