Yes, you can nurse an adopted baby. Many women do. If you are interested, you need to be in touch with a La Leche League Leader (see sources section below) or a *certified* lactation consultant for ongoing help. (LLL Leaders are free...)
The short version is that you nurse. That causes your body to produce milk. It will often help if you take a galactagogue (substance that causes your body to produce milk), but that is not necessary, just helpful in addition to nursing.
There are two important factors in adoptive nursing--the mother and the baby. If you know when you will get your baby (or even *approximately* when), you can start using a breast pump before then. This will often get your milk production started. And the younger the baby is when you get her/him, the more likely it is that the baby will be willing to nurse (although babies *have* been taught to nurse as late as 9 months old).
Good luck!!

Sometimes a women might lose a child through miscarriage or through some type of tragedy and decide to adopt. Once you have milk, all you need to do is use a breast pump to keep your milk producing. You can adopt a baby and be able to breast feed it.
I hope this has helped.

You need to get a breast pump and pump your breast for months. It can be done, but you won't get the milk in like you would if you gave birth to your own child.
Had a friend do it ( 25 years ago) when she adopted her son. My mom never knew this when she adopted me.

I am not too sure, but I was watching A Baby Story and there was a woman on there that actually adopted a baby but took some kind of stuff and actually started producing milk and pumped it and kept it in the freezer.

That is awesome that you or someone you know is considering that. I would definetly want to breastfeed an adopted child. The other responders are correct. You can take a medication that the doctor subscribes and stimulate the nipples often. Enjoy the experience! It is one of the most wonderful experiences of motherhood. My second child is weaning now and I am so sad it is almost over. I cherish our experience everyday. Don't give up and Enjoy! Good Luck!

yes, there are medications. but if you choose not to use medications. by a breast pump and start using it regularly. and massage your breasts under warm water in the shower. this should help. and most importantly you have to set your mind to it. you have to convince yourself you can do it. and have to want to do it. this is the way to do it out of "suggestion." by telling your mind and body. a man can breast feed by doing this. there is a man in australia, who is able to breast feed his own daughter whenever his wife is unavailable.
that is the natural way to do it.
also, go to your local hospital and talk to a lactation consultant for some expert advice.

Not only are there suplments you can take to make you start lactating, you can also lactate by suggestion. use a brest pump over and over and eventually your breast will start to lactate. I have a cat and then got to little kittens and though she isnt their mother, they started suckling on her, and then she started lactating. I was also watching something on the discovery channel explaining that men can brest fed their children too. They are fully equiped with the same Little milk factory glands in their boobs. However theirs never go active, but if a man started brest pumping his breast over and over his breast would begin to devlope and lactate..

I didn't know that could be done. Sounds kinda weird though. I can't imagine why someone would choose to take something to make themselves lactate. Their a great infant formulas out there. I hated having my breast leak milk. Kinda inconvenience.

Sometimes that can happen and sometimes it can't. You have to stimulate your breasts REGULARLY to stimulate the milk supply. Hormones can also be taken to make your body believe that you need to produce milk.
I continued to produce milk (although minimal amounts) for 3 years after I quit breastfeeding my son. In that case, all one would have to do is pump often to increase milk supply.
