Too many ID's for a good answer. There is a book out there that says something like "Know your ID" that will show what each state's Driver's License look like etc...

3 Things:
1. Holgram - Each State has a hologram of the State symbol or State Initials plus the letter DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles)
2. Scan bars on the back of license -- Actually can be scanned by bars and law officers to run an actual check on your background
3. Thickness of card - actually measures between 1.5 millmeters and 2.7. Very hard tto replicate because the paper that they use actually comes from the US mint.

there are lots of clues....
picture
name
ask the person questions about the stats on the ID if you have doubts.
age
if you mostly have local people coming in be sure you know the layout of your State's IDs. You can also buy a book on ID's. Most times, the restaurant/bar will have one of these onhand.
Good luck!

It differs from state to state. It would be best for you to invest in an official I.D. guidebook that shows the pictures of authentic ID's from every state.

In PA our licenses have that thing that changes color when you move it under the light...Hyrogliphics I believe... Also watch for peeled-up edges on the plastic at the corners.
