Curious since my phones been pretty quiet. Those of you who are seeking fall teaching jobs, have you been on interviews? Have you had job offers? Where are you in the process? When do you think you'll know for sure if you're hired ... or when does one chalk it up to being placed in the "no" pile?

I just got TWO job offers today. So I landed my job about 4 hours ago.

I've done this twice now and can offer some tips to help you out.

The important thing to know is the deadline for applications. About a week after the deadline the applications are sent to the schools' principals who call applicants for interviews. Then after all of the interviews, they send out cards or make calls to the people how they are not hiring and call the one they want.

What you need to do is CALL the schools, the principals, and the district superintendent. CALL once after you apply and ask about the deadline. CALL about two days after the deadline and ask about the status of your application. If you have to CALL again after a week. If you get an interview, send a thank you note for the interview and CALL after a couple of days to ask about the status of the decision if they have not already called you.

This should work and don't worry. Many school districts post job openings until Aug. If you don't find an opening by Sept. then more jobs open at the end of the semester in Dec. or Jan.

Good luck

A lot of school districts where I live don't even interview until late July. They may not hire anyone until a few days before school starts or possibly after when they see how many teachers they actually need. That makes it really hard for a teacher who wants to change districts since they can't just walk away from their contract without notice and sometimes they need months. That is unfair.

The guy who just got hired gave you good advice. Just keep putting in applications and don't give up completely until after school starts. Then at least you should be able to sub and maybe impress your way into a job for next year. Good Luck!

My husband got hired already. I think it depends on what their deadlines are though. His first job in a smaller town, they asked him to sign his contract in Feb/Mar, but where we live now, they don't even start talking contracts until April/May/June. I would worry if you didn't have anything by August 1. It also depends on what your endorsements are in - some jobs are more in demand than others. Good luck!
