Sorry, I was busy looking in the mirror.
Females do tend be brought up by their parents with the 'Who's my princess?' 'Who my beautiful girl?' etc.
(No fault of their own of course).
Males aren't...Well, maybe some perhaps.

It's really up to you and the way you deal with your beauty. Beauty is a great gift but in order to benefit you must use it right.
Be polite with the people around you and show respect to the less good-looking ones. After all, it is exterior beauty that makes others attracted to us but it is our inside that keeps them beside us. Remember, It is also true that if you are vain and selfish you are likely to end up alone. However, there will be some people who won't treat you right out of jealousy for being pretty. In this case, forget everything about manners and respect and kick some a**!!! Don't let them take their insecurities and inadequacies on you!

i'm not italian but i live in italy, and a lot of people here are really vain. i've seen sooooo many people check themselves out when they walk past shop windows.
a couple of days ago a guy pulled up in my street on his scooter, took his helmet off and then spent about 3 minutes fixing his hair in a car mirror. hilarious!!
here, appearances are really important - sometimes more important than substance, which is pretty sad i think. i've heard more than 1 italian guy say that yes, italian girls always look fantastic (which is true) but that they're all smoke and no fire. i don't think it's a very nice thing to say and i don't think it's necessarily true, but - italian women ALWAYS look good and they seem to love the attention they get. and i hate to say it, but they can be really REALLY self-centred. but the guys can be just as vain and self-centred as the women.
outside italy we tend to make fun of people who pay too much attention to how they look, but i think that yes, if you get a lot of attention for being good looking, you get a bit vain about it. you stop thinking about being a good person and start thinking that how you look is more important than anything else. you also start judging other people, comparing yourself to them and basing your opinion of them on whether or not they're as good looking as you are. pretty sad.
if you're good looking, it really is just an accident. you shouldn't pin all your future ambitions on it because good looks fade with time - being a good person or being smart or being successful through hard work are things that don't fade with time. and if you're good looking, it doesn't make you better than anyone else - and don't ever forget it!!

I am never vain. I only have 63 mirrors in my house and I never look at them more than once a day. I like it when people say to me how handsome I am. You have to put yourself first in everything you do. The rule is look after number one because nobody else will.

No it is not true. Being vain and selfish comes from believing that you are better than any one else because of your good looks.

You can't stop people from giving you attention however you can choose how you respond. Just say thank you. Don't get a big head because as my mom told me being pretty is just a lucky accident.

You can if you start believing it. I've always told my kids be thankful you got the best genes of both your parents - it was only luck. Be beautiful inside and the outside will take care of itself.

It depends on the sort of person you are.
You usually turn out that way when you KNOW you're good looking and you're envied/fancied for being so attractive.

Yes. You become overconfident and this leads to selfishness.
