How rich is country is has nothing to do with its natural resources. Take Hong Kong for example, a very land locked and resource lacking area yet its one of the richest places in the world. What makes a country rich is a strong monetary system, a good investment in its people (usually education) and a stable economic system to persuade investors and buys of goods.

Because the resources are sent away from the Country and it is the poor who harvest it. The middle man and the guys at the top of this are the ones making the bucks.

European colonization left it completely without a tradition for a stable transition of gov't. Countries like this tend end up with a cycle of violence as their method to change gov't. Look at the European wars between the fall of Rome and the Renassaince. The same thing just a millenia later.

There can only be one answer. Corruption in high places. Mexico is the same. Tons of oil, and resources, but the people are poor as dirt. While the rich are filthy rich.

Poor rule of governement, poor rule of law, poor economic and social philosophies - same as so many other African countries. It's criminal.
