I hate Pete Rose. I hate everything about Pete Rose. I hate that he won the Rookie of the Year award in 1963 instead of Ron Hunt. (Hunt was always a better second baseman, was elected to the All-Star team in 1964, a year before Rose, and may have started instead of Rose in 1965 if he had not been injured early in the season.) I hate what he did to Ray Fosse and Bud Harrelson. I hate his hitting streak and his hitting records. I hate the way he sprinted to first base on walks. I hate his gambling and his lying about it.

Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame.

He should be inducted without any ceremony. Let us honor his achievements as a player, even though we should not honor him. The mitigating circumstance is that he never threw a baseball game. However, the bottom of his plaque listing his teams and achievements should read, "BANNED FROM BASEBALL FOR LIFE DUE TO GAMBLING, 1989."

Just as much as anyone else in there right now. He holds more records than most.

Ty Cobb, who he took the hit record of 4,192 from, was far a worse person on and off the field than Pete Rose and was the first inductee into the Hall. This is such bullsh!t about keeping him out over a gambling problem. How about McGuire and Bonds for steroids or Dwight Gooden for cocaine, or the 1000s of player that are or have been alcoholics??? It has not been proven that Rose had thrown any game to win a bet. Yes, he bet on Cinci but he claimed it was for not against. "Charlie Hustle" has been admired for his talent and heart by many ballplayers and sports professionals. Even Walter Payton's idle was Pete Rose. The man has not only the hit record but also has started in the all star game in 5 different positions! No one else has that under their belt.

I will give Pete that he is a great player. But what he did was against the rules. On top of that (and most importantly) he lied for years claiming 'oh, I didn't do it' Then (when the money gets low) he writes a book and FINALLY admits that he was lying all of those years about lying and he did, in fact, bet on baseball. It is wrong, so hell no, no hall of fame 4 u, buddy boy

one big capital YES. so he bet on baseball, maybe that could of had an effect on getting in to the hall if he was a borderline player, but rose was a shoe in for the hall! how about jim thorpe, he bet on football, sometimes he'd pretend that he was injured so the odds for the game would go up and then he'd play. but no 1 has ever even questioned whether thorpe should be in the hall of fame.

yes he does deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. Peoples action outside of thier playing should not effect thier chances for the Hall. There are a TON of people with shady lives that are in the hall.

Absolutely. He may be the best hitter to ever play the game. So he made one mistake and lied about that, how many chances do we give drug addicts like Strawberry and Gooden?? Why does Pete not deserve a 2nd chance in baseball?

Yes, he's the all time hits leader. I would put a notation though that he was banned for life for betting on the sport as a manager.

While we're at it, Shoeless Joe Jackson deserves to be in as well.
