Anyone would like a Mercedes, but would the below average reliability (claimed by many reviews) cause potential buyers to think twice?

I don't know how the newer models are, but as the previous owner of 2 older M-B's I can tell you they are GREAT! I used to tell people that I would prefer a used M-B to ANY new American car. My friend had a RR Silver Wraith and it had NOTHING on my 280SE (except it cost a helluva lot more !!!!!!) The problem w/ ANY 'high-end' car, maintanence is outrageous (also had Porches). Are Mercedes the BEST for the $$$$...?? Probably not, but they ARE a Mercedes..........

Apparently not, considering how popular they seem to be. The poor reliability of Mercedes SHOULD cause people to look at alternatives (of which there are many), but people are lured by the idea of owning a Mercedes, which people take to be a "high-class car." If you're asking because you're thinking of buying one, I would suggest looking at cars by other manufacturers, such as Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, and Audi, all of which I believe are more reliable and just as luxurious (if not more) than a Mercedes.

The Mercedes is a wonderful car, and generally has a comprehensive warranty package to cover anything that might go wrong with it.

Older MB's require a lot of care to keep them showroom new, but so does any other car.

Consumer Reports does not give good ratings to anything that's not Japanese. Cars, ginsu knives, rice cookers, whatever - they are a highly biased publication. I would not paper my bird's cage with their garbage version of 'journalism'.

i own a mercedes and yes since mercedes use a lot of electricity to run the lux feats. thus creating motors not working on the windows, but nothing w/engine. The plus side is they offer unlimited road side assist., 4yr/50k warranty, and free maintence.

Mercedes-Benzes are still well made, but they have untested technology, and they are not testing the new technology in their cars enough!Reliability has gone down, but build quality is the highest in the world .Build quality and reliability are too different things!

Check how they rate other "high quality" luxury cars. BMW, Lexus, Acura and see if it seems accurate. In general these are all very well built, quality makes of vehicles. I would research more into it. Check reports from Road and Track, Edmunds.com, Vehix.com, etc. I think you will find more positive reviews than negative.
