It's quite a shame. If I wanted reality, I wouldn't be watching TV.

1) Reality T.V. is cheaper. They are attracting people with the concept, not necessarily the characters. You could end up liking a character (like any of the 'Idols') but that's after you tune in to the show.
2) As a comedy gets more popular, it is harder to maintain the following things: the standard of the writing (new storylines/jokes), the actor's salaries, people's ego's on the set, etc.
3) Clean humor requires much thought and cleverness. It is also not guaranteed to produce ratings in a market where the higher the shock value, the bigger the ratings for a show.
Those are some of the main reasons, but several others exist. I can probably list 10-20 more off the top of my head.
Thanks.

I am with you 100% !!!!! I ask this question often, in every day conversations. I grew up in an era when wonderful shows were all that was on t.v. Shows such as,"Ozzie and Harriet," "Father Knows Best," " Gunsmoke"( I still love Marshal Dillon!!),"The Donna Reed Show,"and the "The Andy Griffith Show." Thank heaven for TVLand...in about a half hour I'm going to watch my old flame, James Arness as he keeps order in Dodge and frustrates Miss Kitty (and ME) because he doesn't kiss her. Actually, there was this one episode where he had amnesia...he fell in love with a lady(the mother from "The Waltons") kissed her and went to bed with her!!! I, of course, would have paid THEM to play the role of the lucky lady. The reality junk of today must be what the younger generation wants. As for me, I'd like to cuddle up with Marshal Dillon and turn off the t.v. Hmmmmmmmmm.

I have enough reality in my own life. I want to watch tv to get AWAY from it, not wallow in it! I only watch two shows anymore, CSI and the new one Windfall, about the lottery winners. Other than that it's DVD's or a good book...
